  Book - 2  Article in "Windswept" - Winter 1998 - O-Be-Joyful about New Hampshire going "dry" in 1849. Sale of spirits was prohibited as a beverage, and only permitted to be sold for medicinal & sacred purposes. Towns were authorized to appoint agents who were licensed. This law was blatantly ignored. The Tip Top House engaged in this illegal traffic. 1864 photograph shows interior of Tip Top House with liquor bottles and imbibers.
