Welcome

The Jackson Historical Society was formed in April of 1977 by a group of townspeople whose interest was to preserve the history of Jackson. The purpose of the Society as written in the Bylaws states,

"The object of this Society shall be to engender interest in the history of the Jackson area by the collection, display and care of articles of historic and educational interest, to accept such materials by gift, loan, purchase or all other appropriate means and to act as a body for dissemination of information thereof."

Members of the Society record information about
the past and present, and for the future.

Many have traveled through the Jackson Covered Bridge since it was built in 1876. This photo of four oxen pulling wood was taken in 1904 and contributed by J. Arthur Doucette.

Yes, this is the same famous bridge in 1999! Jackson was an offical stop on the Stanley Steam Car Centennial Tour celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first Locomobile traveling to the summit of Mt. Washington!

Now, discover the resources documenting Jackson's place in history.
